Silent Disco
SUMMER SERIES KICK-OFF!!

The ultimate outdoor dance party on the banks of the Gowanus, every 4th Saturday of the month May 23 - Aug 22.

Join us as we celebrate balmy Brooklyn nights with music, friends, dancing, nibbles, libations and laughs under the stars. Composer, musician and resident DJ Zemi17 curates an array of eclectic DJs delivering diverse dance sounds live via FM radio transmission directly to your radio headphones!!

For the season kickoff, Zemi17 (resident DJ of the TheDanger parties) is on decks, spinning his patented Space Haus sound, a blend of minimal techno, juicy soundscapes with house pulsations, and a magic indefinable ingredient or two. Guest DJ: DJ Alka (Musique Risque, Thema, Resopal) delivers swingy bouncy techno.

Plus: fire dancers, hoopers, and other fun surprises - bring your light-up skill toys and join in.

Don’t forget your radio headphones…but just in case, we’ll have some to rent ($5) or buy ($10), first come first served.

SAT - May 30 - SCORE! A free swap on the Gowanus

May 13th, 2009

Start gathering your old Twisted Sister albums, ill-advised sample sale purchases, well-intentioned gifts from grandma, those jeans that just don’t fit anymore, etc, and get ready to exchange them for new treasures.

MeanRed Productions is teaming up with FreeNYC, Newmindspace and RefugeNYC (the same folks who brought you the Wall Street Pillow Fight) to transform the waterfront venue, BKLYN Yard, into an open-air free boutique.

Over hundreds of records, clothes, household items, and regretful “impulse buys” will find new homes. This one-day event celebrates the joys of finding treasure in some one else’s trash.

HOW SCORE! WORKS

1. Attendees bring their old Twisted Sister albums, ill-advised sample sale purchases, dog-eared graphic novels, and get to leave with something new.
2. BKLYN Yard will be split into departments, each “curated” by different individuals and organizations….

APPAREL – Amy & Leslie
BOOKS – The Desk Set
KITCHEN PRODUCTS – Natalie Kamei
MUSIC – MeanRed Productions

3. Volunteers will sort donations, a roving stylist will be available to make wardrobe suggestions, the Treats Truck will be on hand to satisfy sugar cravings, and local DJs will provide the background music for a lazy Spring day at BKLYN Yard.
The event is free and open to the public. Donations can be dropped off prior to the event, or left at the door. All left-over items will be collected by Rock and Wrap It Up – an anti-poverty “think tank” that distributes donations to worth non-profits throughout the city.
